Description :
Rima relates: "I learnt tailoring from my aunt, and I became a professional tailor. This was before I got married. As my husband was earning well, so I did not need to earn anymore. We raised a family having four daughters and a son, life was nice and normal. We were happy.
When the fights started in old city of Homs, we had to leave our lovely home. We moved to Damascus, lived in low-priced hotels and in areas where we could afford to live which was mainly in the suburbs. My husband found a job in Damascus, and when the old city of Homs was reopened, my children and I moved back, while my husband stayed owing to his job.
We started our life again, but then one day I got the shocking news of my husband’s death, who died of a sudden heart attack. Our entire world became upside down. My children had to be registered with an orphanage to get some support. It was very difficult days for all of us.
I could not accept this situation, I had to do something to take care of my children and myself, and tailoring was the only profession I knew. With the help from the ICRC and Syrian Arab Red Crescent I bought a sewing machine and started to receive orders from clients. My aunt who lives nearby also helps me in tailoring."
