Description : “In 2004 we were living in Palabek internally displaced persons camp. One day my son, who was 27, took my bike and went to sell local brew in Kitgum town. He was getting engaged to a woman and was preparing the money for the dowry. Unfortunately, he never made it home from the market. After waiting for some time we were so anxious that we went to see spirit mediums and they performed a ritual and told us that our son had been killed in Congo. So we did a funeral in his hut with all the family. But when the Red Cross came to ask families of missing to register, my wife and I went. It’s difficult to believe he is dead if no one has seen his body. At times we think he is still alive but think if he was still alive he would come back. We are in a dilemma and I think we may be waiting for him until we die. The only things I kept of my son are his mattress, now used by some members of our family, and the remains of the bike that he was riding when he was abducted.”
