Crée en 1982 et supporté financièrement par la Croix-Rouge Norvégienne, le centre bénéficie du soutien technique et de la fourniture de base de prothèses du CICR. La fabrication et l'adaptation des prothèses de jambes et de pieds est locale. Le personnel qualifié et formé en Tanzanie et dans les Émirats vit en majorité avec sa famille dans le centre. Il y a 7 orthopédistes, 5 physiothérapeutes et 3 administratifs. Les pathologies traitées vont, pour 30% par mois, aux victimes d'amputations. Le reste du travail est pour la rééducation fonctionnelle suite a des malformations, embolies cérébrales et conséquences de l'affection de la polio chez de jeunes enfants. Les soins reviennent de 8 à 10 dollars par patient. Le prix d'un appareillage complet coûte 75 dollars dont 25 dollars en matériel et le reste en salaire et frais de fonctionnement. Le coût pour le patient est de 5 dollars. Par ailleurs, il a été installé, à l'extérieur du complexe, un point d'eau gratuit qui est accessible aux populations environnantes.
The centre was opened in 1982. It receives financial support from the Norwegian Red Cross in addition to technical support and basic prosthetic supplies from the ICRC. Artificial legs and feet are locally produced and adapted. Most of the staff, who were trained in Tanzania and the United Arab Emirates, live at the centre with their families. There are seven orthopaedic technicians, five physiotherapists and three administrators. Thirty per cent of the patients treated each month are amputees. The rest receive rehabilitation for difficulties resulting from malformations, cerebral embolisms and polio (in the case of young children). It costs 8 to 10 dollars to treat one patient. A complete fitting costs 75 dollars: 25 dollars for the material, the rest in wages and administrative costs. The cost for the patient is five dollars. A free water tap was installed just outside the complex for all people in the neighbourhood.
