Description : Volunteers of the Red Cross Society of the Democratic Republic of the Congo exhume the remains of civilians that were killed during the armed violence in 2009, as they were returning from their fields, on the side of the road. The remains were left there since 2009, and are now exhumed to allow families and relatives to have a dignified burial by their loved ones in their village.
Residents of Saba Saba are now living in relative calm following the 2009 armed violence in the province. The violence that included killings, burning of homes and intimidation of civilians forced many residents to flee and seek refuge on the other side of the river Ubangui, in the Likouala sector in the Republic of the Congo, in October 2009. According to government officials, nearly 115,000 people crossed the river.
Teams from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have been assisting the local populations, displaced persons and returnees since the violence began in 2009.
