Description :
In 2009 armed violence between residents of the two villages ereupted over contested fishing rights in the area.
Residents of Enyele and Monzaya are now living in relative calm following the 2009 armed violence in the province. The violence that included killings, burning of homes and intimidation of civilians had forced many residents to flee and seek refuge on the other side of the river Ubangui in Likouala sector of bordering Republic of the Congo, in October 2009. According to government officials, nearly 115,000 people crossed the river.
In Dongo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, teams from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have been assisting the local populations, displaced persons and returnees since the violence began in 2009.
