Description :
The detention is often socially stigmatized in the Malagasy culture and a large number of detainees aren't visited by their family anymore. Some of them haven't heard about their children in more then ten years.
The prison holds roughly 2,600 people, more than three times its maximum capacity of 800. It is located a few hundreds meters from the historical centre of the city.
The ICRC renovates the kitchens and the washing-place, builts new showers and latrines and clean up the old ones to improve the living conditions of the detainees.
