Description : Losing contact with family is a frequent consequence of migration and one that can lead to other difficulties and needs. In the context of Senegal, the ICRC, together with the Senegalese Red Cross Society, has carried out an extensive assessment to better understand the needs of families of missing migrants. In 2013, a report on this assessment was published in order to foster understanding of the broad impact of the disappearance on the families, and to encourage the authorities and other organisations to respond to their needs, whether they be social, economic or legal. In response to one of the needs that were identified in the report, the ICRC together with the Senegalese Red Cross organized in 2016 support sessions in Tambacounda region. Family members of missing migrants, affected by the disappearances of their loved ones, share their feelings during these support sessions. This help them connect with others again, gain renewed purpose and meaning in their lives.
