Description : Abdulkadir Mohamed Farah has seen his livestock gradually dwindle after consecutive seasons of failed rains. His herd of 70 camels has been reduced to just 20, while only 50 goats remain from a flock of nearly 500. Prolonged drought and the lack of pasture have made it increasingly difficult for him to sustain his livelihood and provide for his family. A father of ten with two wives, Abdulkadir says the pressure on pastoralist households has become unbearable in the face of prevailing drought conditions.

“The livestock, both camels and goats, have been lost. Now we fear that people may follow.”

“The animals are dying. They have nothing to eat. Take me as an example, I had 500 goats. Only 50 remain. I had 70 camels. 20 are left.”

“We need humanitarian agencies to come to our aid. Livelihoods have been lost, and we fear for the people. We are deeply afraid for the community.”
