Description : Mahmoud recounted that, on the 8th of October 2005, he was arrested with his cousin and his uncle during a raid in their family's home. As they were being transported to a detention center, an improvised explosive device went off, and as a result, Mahmoud lost both arms and legs. His cousin and uncle died. Mahmoud was treated for eight months at a hospital in Basra where he remained under arrest. After that, he remained arrested for three additional months before receiving 2,500 USD in compensation for the loss of his limbs. The ICRC distributes food parcels, blankets and other hygiene kits.
The camp provides shelter for hundreds of families from Ramadi and Fallujah that have fled increased fighting in the region.
