Description : This 67 years old man is married and has 12 sons and daughters.
He is a former truck driver, he was 19 when he got married in 1969. A year into his marriage, he was blessed with his first child. But that same year in 1970, he was driving his truck with a load of stones, when the vehicle hit a mine. The device exploded, costing him both his legs and his livelihood.
After six months spent at Alnaser Hospital, he was transferred to Almamadani Hospital for another six months of restorative plastic surgery. There, he met with the founder of ICRC’s office in Gaza, Farid Ayyad, who helped facilitate his transfer to Israel, where he was fitted with artificial limbs.
After he lost the ability to work, his brother helped him with the family expenses, until his children were old enough to work and were able to help their father. “I am so grateful to God for enabling me to walk again. I was overjoyed the moment I could walk again. It was one year after my injury”.
He now has many grandsons and granddaughters, who visit him regularly.
