Description : The ICRC provided funds and material to refurbish the derelict boats of fishermen trapped behind a chain of Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip. Launched in November 2005, the project focuses on the refurbishment of 19 shanshulla, the biggest and most expensive fishing boats used by fishermen in the Mawasi area of Rafah. The shanshulla were unusable after five years of exposure to the sun and salt and no maintenance.
