Description : This man is living with his wife and five children in Somotillo, in the State of Chinandega, near the Honduras border - a zone where the Nicaraguan Revolution conflict was particularly devastating and where there is now the greatest number of mines in the country.

He was injured in 1989 by a landmine while he was working his land. He was 25 years old when the accident occured.

He has been working his land with his old prosthesis for the last five years and his prosthesis is now totally broken. He is getting a new prosthesis for free at the Aldo Chavarria Rehabilitation Centre.

The Aldo Chavarria Hospital has a Rehabilitation Centre for war victims and have been supporting them during the conflict in the 80´s. The low income of the country population makes it very difficult for disabled people to afford the US$530 to get a new prosthesis. Today, the hospital offers free access to prosthesis to the war victims thanks to the financial support of the ICRC Special Found for the Disabled.
