Description : For the first time in 17 years, the ICRC has launched a massive food airdrop operation to reach the most in-need populations in the hardest accessible areas of South Sudan. In Leer, Unity state, the communities affected by the recent violence receive food assistance that helps them to survive one of the worst food crisis in the history of the world's youngest nations. Seeds are also added to help struggling families resume their agricultural production disrupted by the conflict and the displacement. After food and seeds are airdropped by the planes coming from Juba, the ICRC and South Sudan Red Cross staff and volunteers present on the ground organise the distribution. They collect the airdropped food and seeds, unpacked them and divide them into family rations. Families who were registered for distribution beforehand are then grouped in 10 and invited to collect their bi-weekly rations after showing food rations cards.
