Description : His family used to grow peppers on their own land in Blayi, beside the Komadougou river. “We left our fields to rent this one here in Toumour. We’re three months late in the harvest, and we have to give half our profits to the landlord, but at least we feel safe,” says Moustapha. Growing peppers to sell on the market was very common in the Diffa region, but the conflict has severely hampered production and sales.
Toumour is around 80 km from the town of Diffa. Thousands of displaced people and refugees have sought safety there. But the growing population and the lack of water has led to tensions.
