Description : Ensam moved to Kirkuk with her two young children after her husband was killed in the sectarian strife in the province of Diyala in 2007. Supported by the ICRC grant, she opened a grocery shop at the beginning of 2013 in the informal settlement of Huzeyran, south of Kirkuk. She says due to extreme poverty of the people, she has no competition running the only grocery shop nearby. Although her main customers are children, thanks to the shop Ensam says she can now carry all the expenses for her two children. Relying previously on charity aid, she is also able to help the others which makes her very proud. More importantly, there has also been a social change in her life "when an international organisation, such as the ICRC, takes some interest in a lonely life of a widow". As her business continues to flourish, Ensam now thinks to expand her offer to meet growing demands of her customers.
