Description :
The ICRC Water and Habitat project in Al Husseiniya covers six villages with a total population of 3,000 people, mostly Arab Sunnis who mostly live by agriculture and animal husbandry. The villages located about 80km South West of Kirkuk city in Hawija District, Kirkuk Governorate, are one of the most remote places in the area. Because of a very volatile security situation, the population of Hawija has been neglected and is suffering from a lack of basic public services. Since 2010, the ICRC has rehabilitated the existing compact unit and water supply system of the area, including laying out pressurised transmission pipeline and the construction of an elevated water tank of 200m3 capacity, and connected the six villages to the water supply project in order to ensure the access to quality potable water.
