Description :
Saman was born blind. He was unable to study in school as Takiya, the small town in the Suleymanieh governorate in Northern Iraq, does not offer any education opportunity for blind people. A year ago, Saman would have never dreamt of owning a shop. In September 2013 he was advised by a former beneficiary of the ICRC micro-economic initiatives programme to approach the Red Cross. Saman was given a small grant to open a photocopy and computer shop, which he runs with the help of his younger brother. Saman now is able to maintain his family - his wife, eight-years old son and two-years old daughter. He also says that computer has opened an entire world for him. After having saved some money, Saman launched a small local radio station where he plays folklore Kurdish music and educates people about computers.
