Description : In addition to receiving mats, blankets, basins and soap, beneficiaries whose houses had been burnt down during clashes received boxes of kitchen items including cups, plates and cutlery. Each family also received a large tarpaulin.

In all, some 3,500 displaced families from dozens of villages around Kaga Bandoro are receiving non-food aid from the ICRC.

Conditions in the bush where families are living are very poor. Women say they are feeding their families on wild fruits and leaves from the manioc plant, a staple food. The absence of health care facilities is one of their major concerns. They also have almost no possessions. They say the items they have received from the Red Cross will make it a little easier to cope.
