Description : A fundamental part of the ICRC's work all over the world is to talk to bearers of arms about codes of conduct during times of violence, conflict and war.

The duty to protect civilians from harm, and to treat humanely all those who are wounded, have been captured, or have laid down their arms, are key elements of international humanitarian law, also known as the Law of Armed Conflict. Similar messages are passed to all sides during dissemination sessions, be they with rebels or regular armed forces or elite units, as on this occasion.
