Description :
Families whose houses have been burnt down are especially vulnerable. This woman, whose husband was killed when there was fighting in her village has four children. She is living in the forest and occasionally works in her neighbours' fields to earn a little money. She heard about the ICRC distribution from the chief of the village who was responsible for drawing up the beneficiary list in cooperation with the ICRC team in Kaga Bandoro. She is worried for her children's health, and also by the fact that she has no resources with which to rebuild her house once the situation calms down and it is safe for people to go home.
For the young, living in the bush is particularly hard. This child's mother says she has no clothes for her daughter, and no medicine should she fall ill. It is now the rainy season in Central African Republic and pools of stagnant water attract mosquitoes that cause malaria. Snakes pose another constant danger. Two children were bitten in the forest the day before this photograph was taken.
