Description :
In September 2025, the ICRC, in collaboration with the South Sudan Red Cross, carried out a large-scale distribution of food and non-food items to over 7,200 returnees (1,200 households) and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Mayen-Gumel area of Kuajok, located in Warrap State. This humanitarian effort was part of a broader response to the ongoing crisis that has seen more than 750,000 refugees from Sudan flee to neighboring South Sudan since April 2023. Many of these individuals include civilians who had previously been displaced by conflict in South Sudan, forcing them to seek refuge in Sudan over the past decade.
The distribution was critical in providing much-needed relief to people displaced both by the conflict in Sudan and by internal violence within South Sudan. The food supplies distributed included sorghum, beans, cooking oil, salt, and energy biscuits, while essential household items included kitchen sets, blankets, buckets, plastic sheets, mosquito nets, soap, sleeping mats, and dignity kits designed specifically for women and girls.
The influx has placed immense pressure on South Sudan's already limited resources, including food, water, education, and healthcare services, underscoring the urgent need for continued humanitarian support.
