Description :
Most returnees from Sudan such as these group of women, often find nothing upon arrival. They have no shelter, no food or water, leading to increased rates of disease outbreaks and high rates of malnutrition. Families are then forced to live in makeshift shelters that lack necessities like mosquito nets and bedding.
In September 2025, the ICRC assisted some 1,200 households of returnees with food and essential household items such as soap, blankets, cooking utensils and mosquito nets. More than a million refugees and returnees have arrived in different parts of South Sudan since 15 April 2023 when war broke out in Sudan, putting enormous pressure on the meagre resources available, particularly food and water, but also education and healthcare services.
