He underwent an amputation at a hospital in Khartoum that did not offer any orthotic or prosthetic services. Here, at the ICRC-supported Physical Rehabilitation Centre in Juba, specialists are crafting a prosthetic limb to help him restore his mobility and overall functionality.
In the country, the ICRC supports three physical rehabilitation centers located in Juba, Wau, and Rumbek. These centers provide prostheses, crutches, and wheelchairs, as well as comprehensive clinical support, including physiotherapy sessions to help patients regain mobility, and psychosocial support. In 2025, more than 4,300 people benefited from physical rehabilitation services in these centers, representing a 30% increase compared to the previous year.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 300,000 people in South Sudan are in need of orthopedic and mobility care.
