Durant la guerre avec Israël en 2006, presque toutes les boulangeries de Tyr étaient fermées. Cette boulangerie, à Rachidiyeh, et une autre à Tyr même, devaient assumer la tâche de nourrir toute la population. Le pain est un aliment de base au Liban. Grâce au combustible et à la farine fournis en partie par le CICR, la boulangerie de Rachidiyeh a pu produire jusqu'à quatre tonnes de pain par jour. Cela suffisait pour nourrir 100 000 personnes, Palestiniens et Libanais confondus.
Des volontaires travaillaient en deux équipes, 18 heures par jour. Assurer l'approvisionnement en farine était difficile et dangereux, car il fallait la transporter par camion de Saïda (à 40 km au nord) durant les pauses incertaines des combats. La tâche était rendue encore plus dangereuse par le fait que tous les ponts menant à Tyr avaient été détruits et que les véhicules en mouvement étaient souvent pris pour cibles. Les hommes devaient porter les lourds sacs de farine sur un pont temporaire franchissant le fleuve Litani.
During the war with Israel in 2006, almost all the bakeries in Tyre were shut. This bakery in Rashidiyeh and another in Tyre proper were left the task of feeding the entire population. Bread is a staple food in Lebanon. With fuel and flour provided in part by the ICRC, the Rashidiyeh bakery was able to produce up to four tons of bread a day. This was enough for 100,000 people including both Palestinians and Lebanese.
Volunteers worked in two shifts, 18 hours a day. Securing the supply of flour was difficult and dangerous, as it had to be trucked in from Saida (40 km north) during unreliable lulls in the fighting. The task was made more hazardous by the fact that all the bridges to the entrance of Tyre had been destroyed and moving vehicles were often targeted. Men had to carry the heavy bags of flour across a temporary bridge spanning the Litani river.
