Description :
This village is three km from the border with Israel. In early August 2006, the Israeli army moved into the village. Those who had cars fled, but his family (his wife, his son and daughter-in-law, who had just had a baby, plus a number of children and grandchildren) were unable to flee and took shelter with another 50 people in a village house. The fighting between Hizbullah and the Israelis eventually forced them to flee the village. The elderly and the children had to be carried. They took shelter in a mosque with hundreds of other people. There they received relief from the ICRC. The organization later evacuated them to a nearby town. Like most southerners, they returned on the day of the ceasefire, 14 August 2006, to an utterly wrecked house and fields littered with cluster bombs. They felt it was better to come back to their house, even if it was wrecked, than be displaced. They have now rebuilt their home.
