Description : Ekaterina, an ethnic Russian, has been living in her house since 1958, but due to disrepair she has had to move into an annex two-room house on her property. Her husband died in 1988 and her 28 year-old son was killed before the conflict. Her brother passed away in 2003 and her niece is studying in Central Russia. She says that during the conflict, her Chechen neighbours protected her by dressing her up to look Muslim. Russian Red Cross Home Visiting Nurse, Larisa Tsakhilova and Ekaterina have known each other for 13 years. The nurse started coming for home visits in 2005. She finds out what Ekaterina needs and helps her out - cleaning, buying groceries and medicines, and keeps her company so that she feels less lonely. In this photo, Ekaterina in her garden picking flowers.
