Description : The two Chechen conflicts left this village virtually destroyed. Before the conflicts, there were 1914 households living in the village. Today, only 73 remain. The land in and around Bamut is mined. Lecha and his wife Zara's home in Bamut was destroyed in 1995, after which they fled to Ingushetia. They returned to Bamut a couple of years ago and are since then living in this room in the village's collective centre. Their main source of income is collecting wild garlic in the woods and fields around Bamut, some of which are still mined.
