He is searching for surface cluster sub-munitions. Amongst the vegetation are tobacco plants which the deminer harvest for local residents in order to prevent them from trying to do so themselves. The UN estimates about a million unexploded cluster sub-munitions in Southern Lebanon following the war with Israel in 2006.
