Description : Ouham province is a part of the country that has only recently enjoyed relative peace. In 2007, following attacks from armed men, villages were looted and deserted. Villagers fled to neighboring villages or deep in the bush while some ventured to neighboring Chad for refuge. In this part of the country the ICRC and the Central African Red Cross are working to help people settle back into their villages. Bicycles and fishing nets are being distributed by ICRC and allocated to each part of the town to share for trips to the market and hospital. The nets allow villagers to catch enough fish to sell some. The bicycles can be used to transport this and other produce to sell in larger markets. In this way villagers are able to pay the modest fee for renting both. The communal funds are then reinvested back into the community. The objective is to jumpstart the local economy.

The villagers fled the village on the 3rd of December 2007 and returned on the 7th of March after the signing of the DDR (Disarmament, Democratization, Reinsertion) treaty. A local artist was inspired by the events that led to the villagers fleeing the village by a drawing he put on a house.
