Press release 07/08/2006 : Geneva (ICRC) – On 7 August the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Jakob Kellenberger, arrived in Beirut, where he will meet with President Emile Lahoud, Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri.
Their discussions will focus on the humanitarian situation in Lebanon, ways of providing assistance and protection for those most affected by the armed conflict, and the ICRC’s ongoing operations in the country.
Mr Kellenberger will also meet with the president of the Lebanese Red Cross Society, Sheikh Samy Dahdah, to discuss cooperation between the Society and the ICRC, and how best to respond jointly to the emergency needs of the Lebanese people.
